English to Tengwar script
Type an English word above to see its letters rendered with Tengwar signs. The converter groups common pairs such as th, sh, ch, ng, wh and qu. Vowels appear as marks on a following consonant or on a carrier at a word end. This is a simplified orthographic preview, so unusual names and spelling patterns need human review.

Transcription is not Elvish translation

A Tengwar mode is a set of writing conventions for a language. The Tecendil handbook distinguishes English spelling-based and sound-based approaches, and shows why two transcriptions can differ. This page offers one simplified English spelling preview, not a mode selector or an authoritative reading of Tolkien's examples. For a tattoo, engraving or other permanent use, have someone familiar with the intended mode review the result.

Font and copy compatibility
The preview uses Alcarin Tengwar, distributed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. Copied characters use private-use code points. They can display as empty boxes in apps without a compatible Tengwar font, and different fonts may assign those points differently. The on-page preview is the reliable view.
Before sending a copied phrase, paste it into the destination app and check it there. If its signs change or disappear, the recipient may need a compatible font; the Copy button alone cannot carry the font styling with the text. For a visual reference that does not depend on the recipient's font, capture the on-page preview as an image using your device's screenshot control.
Tengwar translator questions
Is the result written in Quenya or Sindarin?
No. It is still English, represented with a simplified Tengwar spelling mode.
Why is there no generic Tengwar decoder?
The same sign can be read differently across modes, and private-use fonts may use different mappings. A pasted string alone does not identify its mode.
Can I paste the result into another app?
Yes, but that app needs a compatible Tengwar font to display the private-use characters correctly.
Will a different Tengwar transcriber give the same result?
Not necessarily. Modes differ in how they represent English spelling and sounds. Compare the conventions used before deciding which rendering fits your purpose.
